Camp 2010 By Baxter

I jumped out of bed thinking yay today’s the day Room12 of Plimmerton School goes to camp in the Rimutaka Forest Park.

After about 20 minutes I was ready to go. I walked up into class, to see most of my classmates sitting on the mat surrounded by huge backpacks that looked like they were going to explode.

Finally the roll was done and we set off down the field to the car park. I was in a car with Rihari and Josh and Steve/Josh’s dad drove. We had to stop off at BP so Steve could get some petrol; he also bought us a chocolate bar.

It took about 30 minutes to get to the Education Centre, were Ms J called Mr Laird on her phone, while we waited we played with some Frisbees. Another quick drive and we were at the Rimutaka Forest camping ground. When everyone got out of their cars we went to unpack the trailer. a couple of minutes went by then we all grabbed a tent and went to set it up. Callum, Josh and I were in a tent and we could only see 2 person tents so bribed Carl to give us the 3 person tent that he had. Soon everyone finished and we went to get our lunch.

After eating Ms J called everyone over and told us that we had to put or jersey and drink bottle in our day pack. We were driven to the start of the seal colony.

During the walk we found some Tussock that was springy and most of the kids started to bounce on them.
“Ow” I blurted out half laughing, half in pain.
“Are you okay” Carl asked, trying to hold in his laughter because my leg fell through a gap in the Tussock and I had lots of scratches down my leg.

It took about another ten minutes before we got to our destination.
Rihari, Josh and I started to climb up a rock.
“I don’t know if we should do this” I yelled because the wind was so strong I could barely hear myself speak.
“It’s to windy and we didn’t ask Ms J”
“It’ll be okay when we get behind the rock “Rihari said,
And he was right. When I climbed down I ran off to catch up with Callum and Carl.
“Hey”Carl said “at seal’s so fat it looks like it’s pregnant"

When we got back to camp we were all to stuffed to play around, so we put on our togs and bolted down to the river to cool off. The river was cold and shallow. For dinner Callum, Josh and I had chicken nuggets and hash browns.

Finally it got dark and we played spotlight, Josh and Callum came running out of the bushes screaming and yelling because they heard a possum. When we had a couple of games some parents went to set up nightline.

I didn’t get scared but when I finished I borrowed Hohepa’s torch and went back in scaring the others.

Afterwards everyone went to bed, I fell asleep quickly. Apparently I was snoring for a little while then stopped.

Camp was so fun and without the parents we wouldn’t be able to go. I wish we could go back to the Rimutaka again.
